First Student has a policy to be sure students are not mistakenly left on a bus.  We have installed on each of the buses something called “Child Check Mate”.  It’s a system that requires you to physically walk to the back of the bus to disarm an alarm.  The only way you can accomplish the disarm is to turn off your headlights and walk to the back where there is a red button that you push.  If you don’t do this, your horn will start honking and won’t stop.  This system forces you to take that walk and check those seats.  We have never had a child left on the bus.  Training the drivers with the Child Check Mate is a very important part of our training.  Just to make sure we all treat this with grave importance, First Student has a policy that any driver leaving a child on the bus is fired immediately.
