Instructional Services
The focus of Vashon Island School District’s instructional services is to evaluate and align current curricula using the five-year strategic plan as our guide. Training teachers to use new curricula through Vashon Institute is a key to our success.
Our goals are to support student achievement with curricula that meet national and state standards and to build upon our rich Island resources – student, family, staff, and the natural environment. Keeping in mind that the state standards are minimal requirements, our programs go beyond those expectations to utilize our multitude of resources and to offer an outstanding program rich in arts and music, deeply teaching students the foundational subjects of reading, writing, and math, and enhancing their lives through exploration of science and social studies.
Instructional Services Council (ISC)
The Instructional Services Council (ISC) is a forum of teachers, administrators and parents who are evaluating and adopting instructional materials that spiral and build student skills and competencies from one grade to the next. The ISC has a very ambitious goal for year one 2008-2009 to align reading and writing program, and to begin the science education adoption with the science team.
